Cedarsong Way Teacher Training
We are so excited to offer The Cedarsong Way Residential Teacher Trainings at our school! We have found The Cedarsong Way to be a grounding and inspiring philosophy to center our nature-based teaching practice, and we are so honored to share it with you! The Schoolhouse has been a Cedarsong Way Accredited School since 2021, and all three Schoolhouse teachers are certified in the Cedarsong Way and certified Cedarsong Way teacher trainers.
Before attending a residential teacher training at Wind Ridge Schoolhouse, you need to complete the self-paced Cedarsong Way Foundations course. This introductory online course covers the basics of The Cedarsong Way Pedagogy: the educational philosophy, foundational principles, and the benefits of forest kindergarten and nature immersion programs.
As a part of the The Cedarsong Way Residential Teacher Training, you will learn about the distinguishing features of The Cedarsong Way Nature Pedagogy; specifically, unstructured nature immersion, interest-led flow learning, inquiry-based teaching style, child-inspired emergent curriculum, and promoting social and emotional development through a positive reinforcement approach. You will also learn how to make your program a success by understanding the most critical elements, such as appropriate clothing, building parent community, developing the aptitudes of a nature-based teacher, and risk management. The Cedarsong Way Teacher Training involves a total of 35 hours of training, including topic discussions, direct observation of a Cedarsong Accredited school program, practicum opportunity, and valuable question and answer time with highly skilled Cedarsong Certified Trainers.
Are you looking for a unifying nature-based pedagogy for your program? Does your program need to train new teachers in nature-based education? Are you seeking inspiration and community in your teaching practice? If so, we would love for you to join an on-site training with us soon!

June 14 - 18, 2024 - SOLD OUT!
Summer in Duluth is a celebratory experience! The warmth of summer will be inviting the children to play in the Little Creek and nearby Twin Ponds. Greeting and identifying the ephemeral wildflowers will enliven our hikes through the forest. The children will be spending their days playing on the hillside while Lake Superior sparkles below. |
March 7 - 11, 2025
Join us for the merry month of March! In March, nature preschoolers are delighted by the "5th season" in the Northland - Winterspring! Sap starts to drip from the Maples, rivers of melting snow create playful ephemeral streams, and winter gear ends up in piles as the temperatures slowly rise above freezing. This training will not only dive into the pedagogy of the Cedarsong Way, but also offer lots of learning around managing gear and supporting children through transitioning seasons. |
Visiting Duluth, MN
While in Duluth, we encourage you to enjoy the beauty and adventure of the Northwoods! "The area around Duluth has been known by Ojibwe words that describe this terrain. One of these is Onigamiising, the place of the small portage, which refers to the five-mile-long sandbar not far from the Point of Rocks. Another is Misaabekong, the place of the giants. Standing on top of those walls of gabbro, or looking up at the mass of rocks and trees from the valley and lakeshore, we are standing among giants" (Gichigami Hearts: Stories and Histories from Misaabekong, Linda LeGarde Grover).
Wind Ridge Schoolhouse is in the Observation Hill neighborhood overlooking Gichigami (Lake Superior). We gather on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of Ojibwe, Dakota, Northern Cheyenne, and other Indigenous people.
If you are traveling from afar, you can arrive via the Duluth International Airport (DLH) or the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP). There are several shuttle services that travel from MSP to Duluth.
There are many great lodging options in Duluth including hotels, condos, vacation rentals, and hostels. If you are interested in camping, we recommend:
1. Jay Cooke State Park 18 miles from the Schoolhouse
2. Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center 23 miles from the Schoolhouse
3. Bagley Nature Center 5 miles from the Schoolhouse
